Website Guide - Audit

If you run an online store, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye out for ways to improve your number of sales. You may be reaching your sales targets today, but if the market takes a downturn, you’ll have a better chance of staying afloat if you spend the good times making your store as appealing and popular as possible. With that in mind, here are some tips that can boost your conversion rate and help you make more sales.

4 Tips to Boost Sales on Your Online Store

1 – Invest in a professional website

If you haven’t already, it’s a good idea to invest in getting a professional-designed website for your store. Good web design isn’t just about looking pretty — it helps build trust between your store and your customers, as a well-designed website shows both care and competence. It can also be useful to invest in better assets for the site, such as professional copywriting, product photos, product videos, and more. All of these can help your store stand out from the competition.

2 – Reduce shipping costs

Between using tools that compare courier quotes and negotiating for deals directly, there are many ways for a savvy eCommerce store owner to cut back shipping costs. And doing so will mean that your customers will get cheaper shipping, which can be what makes them choose your store over the competition. Or if your store offers free shipping, you can pass those savings onto the customers by lowering the price of certain products.

Similar benefits can be obtained by reducing all sorts of business overheads, as lowering your bills will allow you to charge less while still making the same amount in profit. But since shipping fees are the one bit of overhead that customers may end up having to pay for themselves, this is a good place to start cutting costs.

3 – Fish for social proof

Many countries around the world make it illegal for online stores to buy reviews or offer customers rewards in exchange for reviewing a product. However, you can still send out review requests, offer reminders that a product hasn’t been reviewed, and implement all sorts of other little clues to encourage customers to go back and say something about your product and your store. And putting some effort into getting reviews and testimonials is useful; online stores usually perform better when their site includes plenty of social proof.

4 – Tweak your marketing strategy

Just because your current marketing strategy is doing well, it doesn’t mean that it couldn’t be better. Constantly trying new ideas and running tests will help you find ways in which your current strategy can be tweaked and improved. Or you may find an entirely new marketing channel that offers lots of promise.

This doesn’t mean that you should constantly rebuild your strategy from the ground up. Just that it’s a wise idea to have a fraction of your marketing budget dedicated to trying new ideas. You never know what sort of treasures you might uncover doing so. It might give you a head start on that one strategy that everyone will be using 12 months from now.
